Description
Homework for my Digital Illustration class. We had to design three cards (out of a proposed deck, mostly king, queen, jack, etc.), based on a set theme. I went with three of today's reigning popstars, playing on lyrics from their songs:
- Nicki Minaj's Moment for Life: "In this very moment I'm KING" (continuing as "in this very moment I slay Goliath with a sling" on the bottom half)
- Lady Gaga's Born this Way: "Don't be a drag, just be a QUEEN" (with "she rolled my hair, put my lipstick on, in the glass of her boudoir [mirror]")
- Ke$ha's TiK ToK: "Before I leave, brush my teeth with a bottle of JACK"
Trival information that you probably don't care about:
- I was assigned this project three weeks ago (it was due last week), before Gaga's Born This Way video came out. Had it been assigned this week, I probably would've used a costume from the amazing video, rather than her Royal Variety performance [link]
- I was originally going to do a full Gaga set, with her male alterego Jo Calderone as the king, but I had no jack.
- I was also considering doing a full Nicki set, with lyrics from her verse in Kanye West's Monster for the queen ("you can be the king, but watch the QUEEN conquer"), but again, had no jack.
- I also REALLY wanted to include Britney in it, and had I not thought of Ke$ha's perfectly-fitting "jack" lyric, I would've had Britney as a joker/wild card, as "The Ringleader" (going along with her Circus theme [btw did y'all hear her new album???! OMG, I'm LOVING it])
- Gaga's the queen of hearts because I love her more than anything.
- Nicki's the king of spades because I love it when she's takes on her angry alterego Roman, so playing with the idea of war and the Romans, "spear" is kinda like "spades". I mean, they look the same-ish. lol
- Ke$ha's the jack of diamonds because she talks a lot about doing drugs and alcohol (which I don't condemn, but I still love her music); "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds"...?

I love this! And I LOVE your reasons for each card! You put so much thought in it! And yes, a full Nicki deck would have been awesome! Anywho, how, HOW did you does this?
